For those of you who may not know too much about Burano – It’s an Island off Venice which is full of amazing colourful houses – a fishing village. Many magazines have rated Burano as one of the 1o most colourful places in the world. You can see why as soon as you spot Burano from a distance as the Vaporetto brings you closer to land.
How do you get to Burano from Venice you ask? You’ll need to take a vaporetto to the Fondamente Nove stop. Transfer to line 12. You’ll find the boarding area just beyond the Donà Bridge.
Again it’s a photographer’s dream ? The best thing about visiting during off-peak times is there’s not many people around so you can get some really great photos without having to wait for people to move out of the way.
Burano is around an hour away by water taxi or Vaporetto from Venice. You can buy a 3 Island water bus card for around €20 which gives you 2 days to visit Burano / Murano / Torcello. The great thing abut doing it independently is that you don’t have to worry about time restrictions and constrains and so you can plan a day in each place if you wish to or do a day in Burano and a day split over Murano and Torcello depending on how long you have in Venice. As soon as you get off the Vaporetto in Burano you’ll have notice how colourful and just peaceful and zen it is. I’m not sure unhappy people will exist in Burano…I mean – IT’S SO COLOURFUL ?
If you plan to visit Burano – I would highly recommend heading in early so that you’re not waiting around for the Vaporetto on the way back. If it’s during peak season I would imagine the wait time at the vaporetto stops may increase so plan ahead for sure. It’s also the line the local take if you opt for the independent way of checking out the island!
I literally spent my time in Burano walking around in my ripped shoes as they decided to rip by this point ? and taking photos. I couldn’t feel my hands or my face as it had snowed just the day before but man it was worth it!
The houses are painted according to a system dating back to the island’s origins. If someone wishes to change the color of their home, they must make a special request to the government who will decide if it would be permitted and if so, which colour they are able to paint the house. How awesome is that? I will further tell how to find house painters near me when in Novato CA.
You’ll be able to easily walk everywhere within half a day, so you can spend your remaining time in Murano or Torcello or heck if you want to stay in Burano – Do just that!
What’s the best thing to do in Burano you ask? Walk all over the place, of course! since each home is unique in their own ways and whose garage is built and maintained with the help of guys from garage door repair northwest austin adds more authenticity to the scene. So, just take a stroll, enjoy the colourful vibe and soak it all up. It’s truly unique and quirky and you have to enjoy it whilst you’re there. You’ll feel like you’re walking around in a painting – no really you will.
Take a camera – No doubt you’ll want to take some photos yourself to take him with you.
Here are some photos from Burano itself, I hope it inspires you to get your next trip booked!
