For those of you who don’t know – I’ve set up a project to do with all things travel over here so go check it out and don’t forget to subscribe!
I spent 6 months in a place called Dingo which is situated in Queensland. The closest ‘city’ was Rockhampton and a town called Blackwater around 45 minutes drive from Dingo was the next spot. There wasn’t much going on in this place but it was a great opportunity to hit some work and save real hard which would later go on to fund the rest of travels to Bali, Thailand, Tokyo, Hong Kong and I came back with savings.
Basically, throw yourself in at the deep end – amazing how things work out!
I had about $50 to my name by the time we got into Dingo and the plan really wasn’t to come back to the UK so soon, so I took the first job I got offered plus at the time it paid so well. $21 an hour day rate and overnight shifts were $28 an hour. Yes I opted for night shifts for 6 months and save hard! We made a killing at that place and it was the best thing ever in the end!
The time in Dingo was pivotal to what I’m doing right now. It’s the first time I created a blog and during this time I reconnected with my passions and myself and what I wanted to do in life I guess! Dingo was – like – literally not a lot going on there. There was heaps of horses and few people, it was really a contrast to living in a city. I mean, I’m from Manchester! Total contrast! I had just upgraded my camera too and so it was an awesome time to learn. When I wasn’t working I was out shooting whatever I could and watching business building videos online whenever I had internet. The signal wasn’t great out there. You know what they say though – You find yourself in the middle of nowhere!
Every morning I got to experience the most amazing sunrises, heck I had wild kangaroo’s as neighbours around the back. It was truly an amazing experience.
Nearby to Dingo was Blackdown Tableland National Park so when we had access to the ute we would head on out there. Most the evenings were filled with backyard fire pit’s freshly made by the boys and beer! It was the best time ever. You can pop over to this website if you need to get a renovation done to your backyard.
I’ll never forget that time in my life and it’s amazing to see how other backpackers are doing every now and again on social media.
Have you done a working holiday visa abroad? If so, where and how was it for you?
