There’s nothing quite like the energy of Manchester International Festival – and this year was no exception. Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Everything Is Recorded at Factory International, with the one and only Sampha making a special guest appearance. A perfect fusion of soul, sound, and raw emotion – it was one of those rare nights where everything just clicked, both musically and behind the camera.
As a music photographer based here in Manchester, there’s something special about returning to shoot at Factory International. It’s been a minute since I last worked with the Factory team, and stepping back into the venue felt fab. The space continues to blow me away – its scale, lighting versatility, and atmosphere are a dream to work with. It’s made for moments like these.
Everything Is Recorded – helmed by Richard Russell – brought a set that was part immersive experience, part sonic exploration. The layers of instrumentation and collaboration created a textured soundscape that translated beautifully through the lens. When Sampha took the stage, the room shifted – his presence, voice, and intensity filled every corner.
From the pulsating lights to the subtle expressions between performers, the night was a goldmine of visual storytelling.
MIF25 continues to highlight why Manchester holds such a vital place in the UK’s cultural landscape.
There’s nothing quite like capturing live music in this city. Being part of nights like this – where music, people, and place come together so effortlessly is just fantastic.
Keep supporting live music and local art. Manchester always delivers.
